My goal is to take information learned in each aspect of the Information and Communication Technologies program and convert it to practical application, such as better understanding of the technical side of web-based journalism; e-commerce with an eye on another entrepreneurial opportunity; and analytics to better maximize dwindling resources and define the audience - in short, what works and what doesn't.
In the process, I hope to keep myself at the forefront of employability in a rapidly changing industry with an option to pursue a teaching position.
Emphasis Area Competencies
Learn how to better utilize e-commerce, both in terms of individual use and industry use, and increase business revenue.
Use the information learned in e-commerce to better recognize an entrepreneurial opportunity and take advantage of it before it closes.
Learn the advantages of search engine optimization, but balance it with protecting editorial and content integrity; i.e. when does the desire for web traffic outweigh a misleading headline?
Increase my knowledge of analytics to better understand the return on production time invested. Are certain times of the day and certain days of the week better for posting content in terms of a larger audience? What is a reasonable length for an online video and at what point do viewers lose interest? Is social media a viable business tool or time-consuming public relations?
Better understand the mechanics of web design and content management to help streamline navigation; to learn the balance between interactive content and page-loading speed; etc.
To take advantage of all information offered and assess the possibility of practical application. I'm sure there's far more that I don't know, than I do.
To learn enough about the IT end of web communications to better communicate front end problems to the technical departments; to better analyze and assess problem areas; and offer possible solutions to problems.
